Cancer Day Observation

The Aashakiranam Cancer Care Initiative is a project jointly implemented by  Punalur Social Service Society and Caritas India. As part of the Cancer Day observance on February 18, 2025, an awareness session was conducted at  Punalur Social Service Society Conference Hall by Dr. Sumithra Nair (Doctor, Punalur Taluk Hospital).

The Cancer Day celebration was inaugurated by Dr. Selvister Ponnumuthan (Bishop of Punalur Diocese), and the event was presided over by Rev.Fr. Johnson Joseph (PSSS Director). Financial assistance was provided to 10 individuals during the program.Mr. Titus Lukose led an anti-substance abuse pledge. Students from Kottiyam Don Bosco College performed a skit. Fr. Vineeth Benedict delivered the welcome address, and Mr. Dinesh Babu expressed gratitude. Students and self-help group members actively participated in the event.

Sajeevam – Anti-Drug Campaign in Punalur

Punalur Social Service Society, with the collaboration of Caritas India and Kerala Social Service Forum, initiated a programme named SAJEEVAM-an Anti Drug Campaign . The inauguration of the programme was on 14th February 2023 @ 11:30am. The programme started with a prayer song and Mr. Sunny V.O Co-ordinator of Sajeevam project, welcomed the participants. An introductory  speech was delivered by Rev.Fr Johnson Joseph, Director of PSSS. Rt.Rev.Dr.Selvister Ponnumuthan, Bishop of Punalur inaugurated the Sajeevam Programme. Felicitation speeches were delivered by Mrs. Leena and Mr. Justin, Board Members of PSSS. After the inaugural session Smt.Shydha Beegam, Rescue officer of Child line programme conducted an awareness class on drug abuse. Mr. Aneesh M.T, animator of PSSS extended vote of thanks to the participants. The programme was winding up by 2:00pm
